Weekend Links

Happy weekend!
Here’s a round-up of what I’ve enjoyed from around the Web…

“Congratulations, By the Way” by George Saunders
I just finished up the last real week of school. Final exams will be underway next week, and then —— sweet, glorious summer. This graduation speech, delivered by George Saunders to the Syracuse Class of 2013, is still one of my absolute favorites to share with my seniors as they head into the great unknown. My seniors who will graduate next week are one of the finest groups of young adults I’ve had the privilege of working with. I’m bringing a huge wad of tissues to this year’s ceremony.

Here’s an excerpt:

So here’s something I know to be true, although it’s a little corny, and I don’t quite know what to do with it: What I regret most in my life are failures of kindness.

Those moments when another human being was there, in front of me, suffering, and I responded . . . sensibly. Reservedly. Mildly.

The Definitive Carry-On Packing List
Chris and I are heading back to Italy next week! Since we pack only carry-on (even for international trips), this list and graphic have been a great source of inspiration for packing succinctly.

The Great American Read
Pretty dang excited about this show. My bet is on To Kill A Mockingbird or The Great Gatsby. Are those boring choices? I doubt they’ll pick something too unconventional. Although, wouldn’t it be great if the winner is Harry PotterWhich book do you think will win the title?

Stacked Subway Tile
#Obsessed with the all-white, stacked subway tile all the way to the ceiling. It’s a good thing, too, because that’s what we’ll have in our new house!
